Search and Survey actions allow supporters to canvass anywhere with just their phone or computer. Admins can create surveys that supporters fill out while they canvass, and responses are sent back to the organization right away.
Creating the Action (Admin Side)
Follow the steps in the Actions Overview to create a Search and Survey action.
Toggle on list/voter file matching to select lists of contacts for possible matches. Supporters can search those lists during their outreach to match people they’re speaking with against contacts on the list. Read our guide on using lists and voter files for more information on list/voter file matching.
Note: Because these contacts are not from the supporter’s address book, OutreachCircle’s normal privacy policy does not apply. The contact information will be sent to the organization.

If matching with previous Search and Survey lists is toggled on, supporters can search for contacts who are already on another Search and Survey list.
Once you’ve set up matching, click Next. Then you can decide whether to add new contacts to an existing list or a new one. Click the dropdown menu to select a list or create a new one.

Building the survey is like building a supporter form, but without group assignment questions. If contact information for an existing contact needs to be updated, supporters can update it in the survey with a contact information question. Read our Supporter Forms guide for details on building surveys.
Once you reach the Action Landing Page, scroll down to Contact Details to add custom fields, like ID numbers or political parties. Make sure to map these custom fields when you upload your list. You can pick two custom fields to help supporters select the right contact and up to 10 to be displayed along with the survey, which is great for confirming the person's current address and being able to show their polling location.

Completing the Action (Supporter Side)
When a supporter starts a Search and Survey action, the first thing they’ll do is enter the name, zip code (optional), and/or phone number of the person they’re talking to. Then they can search any lists that you have set up for matching to see if there’s a match. If there is, they can tap on the correct person and start the survey.

If there isn’t a match in the search results, the supporter can tap Add Contact. The contact information that they add will be shared with the organization.
The supporter will then fill out the survey in the app as they talk to the contact. Once they submit the survey, they can choose whether to fill out the survey for another contact or return to their feed.
