Many clients have jump-started or accelerated their relational organizing efforts by running events dedicated to supporters reaching out to their friends. Below are some tips and best practices.
Before the event
- Print flyers from the Supporters menu (click the Add Supporters button)
- Get comfortable with supporter workflow on all relevant devices (i.e. Android browser, iPhone app, desktop browser)
- Get familiar with the supporter workflow by reviewing this clickable demo
- Review the supporter FAQ articles
- IMPORTANT - Make sure you have good wifi and/or cell coverage
- IMPORTANT - Email or text the recruitment link and/or app code to everyone that is helping run the event and have them save it on their phone; this will be important when you need to quickly email or text the link to a surprise guest. Go to the Settings menu and click on Supporter Recruitment to find your OutreachCircle's app code and recruitment link
- Set up a TV/computer with good sound and play the OutreachCircle relational organizing video and then review the supporter training video. Have this privacy video handy (the question will come up!)
- Remind guests the night before to confirm their attendance. Affinity texting is a great way to send event reminders. If they can’t come, invite them to use OutreachCircle from home.
- If possible, right before the event, text all of your guests a recruitment link or invite them (go to Supporters menu, click on Add Supporters, Import a List)
- Have a whiteboard handy that you can use as a leaderboard to track how many voters each supporter knows in the district. You can even give out a small prize to the winner. This can make the event more exciting and improve engagement of supporters.
During the event
- Give attendees a quick campaign overview. Tell them what they are about to do and how it will help the campaign.
- Play the OutreachCircle relational organizing video.
- Walk supporters through the supporter training video and see if anyone has any questions.
- Have this privacy video handy.
- Have attendees check their email or text messages for the invite. Alternatively, use the flyers from above and have guests use their camera app to read the QR code or go to outreachcircle.com and enter the OutreachCircle's app code.
- If people are walking around and not doing OutreachCircle, have volunteers approach them and ask them to start OutreachCircle.
After the event
- Thank your guests that have joined OutreachCircle and ask them if they will help you recruit others to do the same; Affinity texting is great for event follow-ups.
- Follow up with your guests that did not join OutreachCircle to complete the process at home or attend a future event.
